Najee Redd was on the corner of Augusta and Damen on his way to a bookstore.
What are you reading right now?
Just a ton of fashion magazines.
What’s your favorite one?
At the moment it’s Brutus, from Japan.
Why are you reading so many fashion magazines?
Because I work in fashion. Even as a kid fashion has always spoken to me.
What exactly do you do?
I manage and design for a Chicago-based store and brand located here in the Ukrainian Village.
What places do you go for inspiration?
Bookstores, downtown, the South Side.
How do you pick your clothes in the morning?
It doesn’t take me long at all, not more than five or ten minutes. However, it may be an outfit or a piece I was thinking about days before. The actual dressing doesn’t take long, but the thinking process is constant. Lately I’ve been really into wearing what I own many times, not just once or twice. I like seeing how things wear and the kind of character you can put into the clothes. It’s like creating your own vintage.
Double denim look: how to pull it off?
If you don’t wanna go for the all-out Canadian tuxedo look, pairing washed and raw denim or colored/striped chambray with indigo can make for an interesting look as well. Just be creative and express.
