Nick Marzullo was hanging out in front of Pawn Works, a contemporary art gallery he co-owns, located on Damen just north of Augusta.
How does street art influence what you wear?
Street art and fashion? Uh, not sure about my position in that. I do like hoodies, if that is any sort of answer. The Nike Windrunner is the best piece of clothing ever made.
What does that button on your jacket say?
The button says BEING. It was given to me by a friend, a confidant and partial collaborator. It’s a reference to one of his new projects.
Are there any cool fashion lines designed by street artists?
Sure, some street culture clothing brands are based around visual art that often stems from graffiti/street art, I guess. Scumbags&Superstars, MISHKA, The Joneses, stuff like that. But it’s probably more rooted in skate culture than it is in graffiti/street art.
What are some good places to see street art in the city?
1050 North Damen, of course… Oh, There’s a building in an alley off the California Blue Line stop that offers good work in an isolated area, can be seen while riding the train.
