Personal stylist and modeling coach Joan Sassano was attending the Museum of Contemporary Art’s First Fridays event.
What’s the first thing you teach at your modeling school?
In order to master the modeling industry you must have a plan of action. Know your personal style—is it classic, dramatic, feminine? Learn how to get the look by paying attention to clothes, hair and accessories.
What makes certain people photogenic?
Creativity is the key. Know your body type: triangular, rectangular, diamond shape. Be creative with hairstyles and wardrobe. Know what to minimize and what to maximize.
What can a person do to look better in photos?
To look better in photos understand the difference between daytime and nighttime photography. Dress accordingly: casual for day, dramatic for night. Above all be confident, it’s not what you wear but how you wear it!
What’s your favorite beauty trick?
My favorite beauty trick is to look at but slightly above the camera for each pic. Strike a classic pose and you are ready for the red carpet.
