Giovanni Mendoza was shopping with his folks.
The weather sucks and you’re shopping at Target. How on earth did you summon the energy to pick a cool outfit? Are you going somewhere else?
At least we finally got some snow! I just bought the denim jacket and coat at the thrift store a few weeks back and I was finally able to wear them out today seeing how it wasn’t as cold as it had been for the past few weeks. After Target, we are heading to the grocery store: I’m making dinner tonight.
Do you try to dress well at all times?
It’s sort of a responsibility. Even if I’m just heading to the corner store, I make sure I look put together. First impressions are very important to me, so I try to make sure I get to showcase my personality through my clothes whenever I meet someone for the first time.
How did you compose your look? What details did you pay attention to?
Today I was just going for a casual look, but I made sure it didn’t look too sloppy. I’ve been really into the denim on denim look—to me there’s something very effortless and carefree about it, but at the same time very put together and clean. I threw on this denim jacket over a white tee and some rolled up jeans with a darker wash to keep it from looking too matchy-matchy. I wore my black Docs more out of practicality today because of the weather; they’re my go-to shoe for this time of year. I have my favorite black beanie on and my brown coat to give the look a nice and earthy contrast. I really like how the coat fans out at the bottom and is a little more loose compared to the rest of my outfit, which is quite fitted to my body. Also, I’m wearing these silver rings that used to belong to my dad which were just perfect to tie the look all together.
Where do you go for style inspiration?
I really enjoy looking through foreign fashion and style magazines. One publication that I swear by is a Japanese male-oriented style magazine called POPEYE. It has everything I need: from coats to shoes, it’s all in there.
