Helmut Jahn: In a Flash
(online)
A celebration of the life and boundary-pushing work of the late Chicago star architect, “Helmut Jahn: In a Flash,” is a documentary by Berlin-based filmmaker and journalist Nathan Eddy, whose filmography contains work on architecture and urban planning, and includes two documentaries on Chicago architecture, “The Absent Column” and “Starship Chicago.” As part of the latter, Eddy, who often works with preservationists across the globe to protect endangered works of modern and postmodern architecture, was intrigued by Jahn’s work, so he sat down for an interview with him in his Chicago office. It was June 2016. But he never used it. Fast forward to today, this never-before-seen footage is now the basis of the short film—a behind-the-scenes with a legendary architect who shares his design approach and life story.
